We use the services of Australia’s premier international pet transportation company, Dogtainers to ensure that no risks are taken with the psychological or physical wellbeing of your kitten.
Procedure For Transporting to Japan

Australia is a rabies free country as is Japan. Unlike other neighbouring countries, European countries, USA and Britain, kittens and puppies from Australia are therefore allowed entry into Japan from an early age foregoing the need of extensive waiting periods of quarantine (which in some cases can be from 6 even up to 9 months).

The procedure is relatively simple; we do all the organising on your behalf which covers freight, international airline approved cage, vaccinations (F4), micro- chip, parasite treatments, veterinarian inspections and certification, paperwork. All these are compulsory before the kitten is allowed entry into Japan.

Please Note: You are required to obtain an Import Permit. Please view Import Permit/Authorisation, MAFF Quarantine Dept. Japan www.maff-aqs.go.jp/english to allow your kitten entry into the country. This permit must be obtained 40 days prior to kitten departing Australia.

Once you have obtained this permit and informed us of the details all you will need to do is arrive at Tokyo, Osaka or Sapporo International Airport at a pre-arranged time and date for collection of your kitten. During our regular correspondence we will advise you of the complete procedure to collect your kitten from the Quarantine Inspection Office located within the airport. Dogtainers will also have your phone number and will contact you accordingly to confirm all details or will notify you of any flight changes should they occur, such as arrival time. And of course I’m always in phone contact too, any day, any hour!

How Will Your Kitten Travel?

Your kitten will leave MoonShadow in their airline approved cage where they are taken to the depot of our transport company, Dogtainers . This now becomes their home for the next 3 days prior to their flight.

They are given their own comfortable quarters where they receive one-on-one, loving attention from an assigned staff member. During this time, they are monitored and examined by a government accredited veterinarian, who gives the all-clear for departure. Paperwork is now finalised and the kitten is also treated again for parasites (fleas and worms). Your kitten is now ready for his/her journey.

From Dogtainers, they are taken the short distance to the airport 90 mins before departure. Your kitten will be kept in a climate-controlled room until just prior to departure. Kittens are not placed on conveyor belts with other luggage - instead they are carefully carried to the plane by ground staff on covered trailers for added security and to allow for weather conditions. Kittens are placed in the cargo compartment of the aircraft.

During the flight, the temperature your kitten experiences in the bulk cargo compartment may vary depending on the outside temperature and the exact location of the pet crate. However, the air is well circulated and the temperature in the cargo hold is maintained. Airline staff may wrap crates with air cushion rolls while allowing for ventilation, and take other measures to ensure a safe in-flight environment for your kitten.

Once your kitten arrives at his/her destination they are off-loaded in the same manner. They are then taken to the Quarantine Office located within the airport’s terminal. They have a final examination and paperwork is viewed and cleared. They are now ready for collection.
